Dawson Eyeing England Spot After Impressive Winter

World T20 call-up would be a 'dream come true' for Hampshire all-rounder

“It would be a dream come true.”

That’s the words of Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson ahead of the forthcoming England World T20 squad announcement.

Dawson has enjoyed a very impressive winter with the England EPP and Lions with both the bat and the ball. So much so, that the 25-year old finished the 50-over series against Pakistan A as England’s leading wicket-taker:

“I’d like to think that I contributed in every game that I played which is good. Thankfully I did it with both bat and ball and it’s something I pride myself on. It’s obviously nice to finish as leading wicket-taker in the series, but I’m just pleased I was able to have a positive all-round impact on the team.”

Despite Dawson and his Hants team-mate James Vince enjoying positive winters on a personal front, the England Lions lost their last three 50-over matches in Dubai to lose the series against Pakistan A. However, the Hampshire all-rounder believes the team can take a lot from the experience:

“Andy Flower reiterated to us at the start that our main aim is to win the series, so it was disappointing to eventually lose 3-2. I feel as a team we played some very good cricket and it’s been a very good winter for me personally, so I would have taken it at the start of the winter."

For many Dawson is looked at as an outsider for the England World T20 squad, which is just days away from being announced, and whatever the decision he can be happy with what he’s achieved this winter:

“I want to be consistent with both the bat and the ball & in my own view of my own game, I’ve always felt I’ve had it in me and it’s gone very well for me for the last six months.

“I’ve probably done myself no harm with my performances, but it all depends on what squad they go with and I’d love to be a part of it. If it happens it happens, but if not, I’ve got an exciting season to look forward to with Hampshire.”

The 2016 World T20 Cup is taking place in India with England’s opening match against the West Indies on Wednesday 16th March.
