James Vince Appointed New Hampshire One-Day Captain

The 24-year old will now skipper the side in both the Royal London One-Day Cup and NatWest T20 Blast

Hampshire Cricket are pleased to announce batsman James Vince has been appointed the Club’s new one-day captain.

The 24 year old, who averages 40 with the bat in List A cricket for Hampshire, will now skipper the side in both the Royal London One-Day Cup and NatWest T20 Blast competitions.

After a hugely impressive 2014 season, which saw the Hampshire Academy graduate score more runs than anybody else in Division Two of the LV= County Championship and lead the Club to their fifth consecutive T20 Finals Day, Vince was named England Lions one-day captain in January for their tour of South Africa.

He will captain Hampshire for the first time in 50-over cricket when the Sussex Sharks are the visitors to the The Ageas Bowl on Monday 27 July.

I had a taste of T20 captaincy last season and I really enjoyed leading the England Lions this winter so I’m pleased to get the opportunity to captain Hampshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Last year it probably took us a bit too long to get used to the new format, but we feel a lot more prepared this season and a Lord’s final is what we are all aiming for.

Born in Sussex but raised in Wiltshire, Vince worked his way through Hampshire’s junior ranks before making his Second Team debut in 2007.

Two years later, he played his first matches for Hampshire’s First Team before becoming a regular in 2010.

Vince was a key part of Hampshire’s domestic T20-winning teams in 2010, 2012 and the Clydesdale Bank 40-winning team in 2012.

James impressed with his captaincy in the NatWest T20 Blast and he will now take on the responsibility for all one day cricket in 2015. This appointment will also allow Jimmy Adams to focus on leading the side in Championship cricket and fulfilling the crucial role of Club Captain.
