Edwards & Morris To Miss Southern Vipers’ Clash With Lancashire Thunder

Vipers pair have been ruled out after suffering from concussion in win over Surrey Stars

Charlotte Edwards and Fi Morris to miss Southern Vipers’ clash with Lancashire Thunder in Blackpool today due to concussion.

Southern Vipers captain Charlotte Edwards and team-mate Fi Morris have been ruled-out of playing in the Vipers match against Lancashire Thunder at Blackpool Cricket Club today after suffering from concussion.

Edwards and Morris collided in the field whilst attempting to take a catch in the team’s opening six-wicket victory against Surrey Stars at the The Ageas Bowl on Sunday, and will miss today's match in accordance with the ECB's concussion guidelines.  The pair will be reassessed by medical staff ahead of the Southern Vipers third match on Monday 8th August, when they are due to take on Yorkshire Diamonds on home soil at the The Ageas Bowl.

Southern Vipers captain, Charlotte Edwards, said: “Of course I am disappointed that I won’t be able to play today. The Kia Super League is a short competition, so nobody wants to miss a game.  But we have all seen how seriously head injuries must be taken, so it is good that we have such comprehensive medical advice and support available.

“I’m absolutely delighted with how we started the competition against the Surrey Stars last Sunday.  The crowd down at the The Ageas Bowl were amazing – they created an incredible atmosphere and I’m sure it was a brilliant experience for some of the younger players in both squads to play in front of nearly 2,500 people.  This is a huge tournament for our England Women’s Academy players like Georgia Adams to show what they can do – it provides the environment for the next generation of England players to test themselves and show that they can thrive at the next level up.”

The ECB has permitted the temporary addition of 21-year-old left-arm spinner, Linsey Smith (Berkshire), to the Southern Vipers playing squad.
