Fidel Edwards Signs New Hampshire Contract

Hampshire Cricket are pleased to announce fast-bowler Fidel Edwards has signed a new one-year contract with the club.

The West-Indian paceman has re-signed for the 2017 season, in what will be his third season on the south coast.

I’m very pleased to return to Hampshire for a third year. The 2016 season was a real disappointment with the injury – especially after everything went so well for me the year before – so I can’t wait for the season to start to get back among the wickets again and try to help the team win.

Fidel Edwards

Known for his fiery spells with the ball, Edwards impressed in his opening campaign back in 2015, claiming 45 first-class wickets in eight matches at an average of just 20.80, including a stunning 10-wicket haul against Nottinghamshire in the last fixture of the season to help Hampshire complete the ‘Great Escape’.

It’s pleasing to be able to welcome Fidel back next season. He was desperately unlucky with his injury at the start of the year and it was obviously disappointing to lose him after he performed so well for us in 2015. He’s worked tirelessly to get back towards full fitness since suffering the injury and we’re pleased with the progress he’s made so far.

The variety that he brings to our bowling attack with his injection of pace is a real plus and he’s a great character to have in the changing room too – I know he’s looking forward to being back and it’s a great boost for everyone at the club.

The 34-year-old was also set to play an important role in the club’s 2016 campaign, but after falling awkwardly during a pre-match warm-up, Edwards suffered a broken ankle which saw him side-lined for the remainder of the year having featured in just two fixtures.
