All-rounder Gareth Berg has signed a new contract extension at the club, keeping him at the The Ageas Bowl until the end of the 2016 season.
Berg joined Hampshire ahead of the 2015 season and has played an important role with both the bat and the ball in all formats.
I’m delighted to have signed a new deal with the club. Myself and the club perhaps didn’t realise how much cricket I was going to play, but there has been a role for me within the team and hopefully I can pursue that again next year. I’ve enjoyed every moment of playing for Hampshire so far and long may it continue.
Gareth Berg
The experienced all-rounder made an instant impact at Hants after his move from Middlesex by picking up three wickets against Sussex at the The Ageas Bowl in the opening match of the season.
Since then, Berg hasn’t looked back and the 34-year old is Hampshire’s leading wicket-taker in the LV= County Championship so far with 30 dismissals at an average of 29.
Berg has also been more than useful with the bat with over 500 runs to his name in four-day cricket this season, including a top-score of 99 during Hampshire’s win over Sussex at Hove.
We’re very pleased – he’s come here and performed very well by putting in some consistent bowling performances and contributing with the bat. It’s a credit to him that he’s become a key player in our side – he worked hard during the winter to be fit and he hasn’t looked back since
