Goodwin Hits Ton In Hampshire Academy Defeat

Jake Goodwin scored 113 runs as Hampshire Academy lost to New Milton by 3 wickets in Nursery Ground One-Day

Jake Goodwin accumulated 113 runs with the bat and offspinning all-rounder Joe Weatherley took 4-38 in the British Gas Southern Premier Cricket League, as Hampshire took the positives from a 3-wicket against New Milton on the Nursery Ground.

Goodwin was ambitious, hitting four sixes and nine boundaries, but Hants could only manage 173 runs having elected to bat first, as New Milton bowler Lee Beck (7-71) produced an inspired spell with the ball to signifcantly restrict the home side.

Nick Park (54) then led New Milton's batsmen beyond Hampshire's total and onto 176-7 with a speedy half-ton, compounded by an unbeaten 44 from Nick Elliott, who sealed victory for the visitors.

After Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat first, Beck delivered a seven-wicket haul for New Milton, beginning with the dismissals of Joe Weatherley (1) and Ben Duggan (10), who both edged behind to keeper Tom Arnold to leave Hampshire 13-2.

Goodwin set about turning the game in Hampshire's favour by hitting an assured 113-run innings and, despite an otherwise low-scoring bating display from the home side, the crucial century helped Hants post 173 all out.

Weatherley (4-38) attoned for an low score with thee bat by removing New Milton's top order with highly effective off-break. Arnold and Park climbed to 69 without loss but Weatherley reduced the visitors to 86-3.

Hampshire spinner Mason Crane (2-64) attempted to limit the damage caused by Hall's 54, but an unbeaten knock of 44 from Elliott projected New Milton beyond the home side's tally.

Hants' next match in the British Gas Southern Premier League is against Havant at Havant Park on 25th June.
