MATCH PREVIEW

Natwest T20 Blast (South Division)

Hampshire v Somerset

Friday 29 July (6:30pm Start)

The Ageas Bowl

Hampshire will look to bow out of the NatWest T20 Blast with a fourth win in the competition on Friday (29th June) night, when they clash with bottom-placed Somerset at the The Ageas Bowl.

Hampshire Squad News:

Shahid Afridi is set to make last his last T20 appearance for Hampshire this season, looking to enhance his superb record of seven wins in nine matches playing for the club at the The Ageas Bowl.

19-year-old bowler Brad Wheal has taken five wickets in his last two T20 matches, and he effectively sealed victory for Hampshire over local rivals Sussex Sharks at Hove earlier this month.

Liam Dawson has averaged 32.8 with the bat in his last six matches, including 46 runs against Somerset at Taunton in June. Sean Ervine will skipper a youthful side in the absence of James Vince, currently away with England’s Test squad.

The Opposition:

Somerset skipper Jim Allenby is a highly capable all-rounder; a consistent run-scorer at the top of the order and a real threat with the ball.

The visitors are without the pair who supplied the match-winning runs when the sides met at Taunton in June – Mahela Jayawardene has not been included in Somerset’s squad and Chris Gayle is playing in the Caribbean Premier League.

Since Gayle’s departure, Somerset have failed to find a win in six matches.

What The Team Say:

Giles White, Hampshire’s Director of Cricket, said: “It’s our aim to bow out of the competition with a win, and give the fans something to shout about.

“Shahid has been such a committed player for us in both his spells at the club. We wish him all the best for the next chapter of an outstanding cricket career.

“This format in particular has seen our young players thrive, and Friday night is another opportunity for them to grow.”
