Hampshire Trio Named in England's World T20 Squad

All-rounder Liam Dawson receives first full England call-up

Hampshire trio Liam Dawson, Reece Topley and James Vince have been named in England’s 15-man squad for the 2016 ICC World T20 in India.

All-rounder Liam Dawson has been included in a full England squad for the first time after a hugely impressive off-season with the England Performance Programme (EPP) and the England Lions.

Dawson impressed Lions coach Andy Flower with both the bat and the ball, finishing the 50-over campaign against Pakistan A as the leading wicket-taker. His call-up means he will now join-up with the England T20 squad to face South Africa later this month.

I’m very excited. It’s been quite a quick turnaround from when I went to Essex on loan last season and the last six months has gone extremely well for me. In the back of my mind I thought I had an outside chance but thankfully I’ve been selected and I’m really looking forward to seeing what a World Cup is all about.

If you’re in a World Cup squad you should be prepared to play at any moment so it’s an exciting time for me and it’s going to be an amazing experience. It’s something you dream of from a young age so to actually get there is a real honour.

Hampshire skipper James Vince will be playing in his first major tournament for his country after catching the eye in England’s impressive T20 series win over Pakistan in November. The 24-year old averaged 41 in three matches, and finished Man of the Series as England completed a 3-0 whitewash in Dubai.

Left-arm opening bowler Reece Topley has made his mark in England’s 50-over side and has shown his death bowling qualities on the international stage. Topley has two England T20 caps to his name, finishing with impressive figures of 3-24 in England’s T20 win over Pakistan in November.

We’re delighted and we are very proud of the lads. They’ve all done extremely well over the winter and all of them have continued to produce. It’s a credit to how Dawson has played that he’s been picked, he’s always been a fantastic short-form bowler and hopefully he gets the opportunity out there and plays a part.
