Hampshire v Surrey - Previous T20 Meetings

Ahead of Friday's match, we take a look back at three previous matches between the two sides

Hampshire v Surrey – 31st May 2009

After finishing bottom of the South Group in the 2008 T20 competition, Surrey headed to Southampton to face Hampshire with hopes of securing a result that would kick-start a more positive 2009 campaign. However impressive knocks from Michael Lumb (54) and Jimmy Adams (44) ensured Hampshire posted a substantial 191-6 from their opening 20 overs.

In reply, an excellent innings from former England batsman Mark Ramprakash (73) proved to be in vain as efficient spells from Dominic Cork (2-22), Imran Tahir (2-32) and Billy Taylor (2-38) saw them take two wickets apiece. Hampshire claimed a comfortable victory in the end as Surrey were only able to post 173, 18 runs short of the required total.

Hampshire v Surrey – 3rd June 2011

With a win guaranteeing a home quarter-final in the 2011 T20 competition, Hampshire put on another brilliant showing against a strong Surrey side, as the London-based side travelled to Southampton in 2011. Superb spells from Imran Tahir (2-15) and Chris Wood (1-19) as well as an athletic fielding display saw Hampshire restrict the visitors to just 140-7 from their 20 overs.

The home-side then set about their run-chase with opener Michael Lumb (36) giving Hampshire a positive start, before a flamboyant fifty from James Vince (51*) ensured his side cruised home to a 7-wicket win with an over to spare, and securing a vital home quarter-final.

Hampshire v Surrey – 26th June 2013

Having already qualified for the quarter-final stage of the 2013 T20 competition, Hampshire once again showcased their limited-overs bowling prowess by restricting Surrey to 139-6 in their batting effort of the penultimate group game. Hampshire favourites Danny Briggs (2-20) and David Griffiths (2-23) were the key wicket-takers for the hosts with Gary Wilson (29) the top-scorer for Surrey as Hampshire reached the interval on-top.

A superb knock from Michael Carberry (60) saw Hampshire fly out of the blocks and with boundaries flowing early the left-hander guided Hampshire to a comfortable victory. A fine innings too from Neil McKenzie (37*) saw Hampshire over the line with four balls to spare to claim an emphatic 5-wicket victory to finish top of the South Group.
