Hampshire Women do the Double

Victory over Northamptonshire secured the County Championship Division 3 title

2015 has been an exceptional year for the Hampshire Cricket Women’s team, they recently finished runners up to Worcestershire in the T20 Competition in which they gained promotion and on Sunday 13th September, they emphatically beat Northamptonshire by 208 runs to claim the County Championship Division 3 title.

Both Charlotte Taylor 165 not out and Emily Windsor (103) scored very impressive hundred’s as Hampshire racked up an impressive 347 for 5. Emily Windsor then not content with her century, dominated with the ball taking 6 – 23 to secure 208-run victory.

This completed a very successful year for Hampshire after being runners up in the T20 Competition to Worcestershire. Hampshire boasted a very impressive record winning 7 and losing 1, with that to T20 winners Worcestershire.

Ron Hodgson was appointed at the beginning of the season to take on the role of Head Coach of the Women’s team and success has happened quicker than anybody expected.

Mike Pollard, Hampshire Cricket Board Development Manager said “There were a lot of changes made to the playing Squad over the winter as we looked to improve where we were going. A new coach in Ron Hodgson was appointed as we looked to start a fresh and put a plan in place to take us forward. A 5 year plan was put in place with the aim of giving us real focus and direction. This year we were looking to finish in the top four so the ladies have not exceeded their target a year early but winning the County Championship is a phenomenal achievement and is not something that should be under estimated. The ladies have worked so hard and should be so proud of their achievement, they really do deserve it.”

Hampshire will be looking to kick on in 2016 where they will now play in coloured kit and a white ball, a new challenge for all.
