Hampshire's Disability Festival Hailed 'Success'

Hampshire Cricket Board's Disability Programme Festival proved to be a success as the school's event attracted 22 teams

With the sunshine on their backs, batsmen flourished during the County's Disability Programme School's Festival week with a grand total more than 17500 runs scored by 22 teams over three competitions.

Eleven teams battled for supremacy during the KS3 tourmament on a beautiful day at River Park on Tuesday with, unbeaten pair, Le Murier from Guernsey and Samuel Cody eventually winning through to the final. Top notch fielding was a feature from both teams before the latter eased to a 22 run victory.

Norman Gate were the only unbeaten team in the Primary School competition at Broadhalfpenny Down, easing ahead of Cliffdale, Maple Ridge and Riverside in a seven team competition. Once again the batsmen and fielders excelled..

The PMLDSLD tournament on Thursday at Fleming Park's indoor tennis centre was contested by four schools - Cedar, Icknield, Limington House and St Francis providing county-wide interest. Limington House remained unbeaten but all performed well in a keenly contested day of cricket.

“The smiling faces over the three days said it all. The players' enjoyment, social interaction and personal development is paramount. I would like to thank the team of coaches for their efforts over the festival. Their professionalism, adaptability and good humour ensured that all was well. The team responded admirably to all that came their way, ensuring everything ran seamlessly. Thanks too to the teachers, support staff, parents and, of course, the players who made the whole a thoroughly enjoyable success. Looking forward to next year!”
