Can Hants Leapfrog Kent in One Day-Cup?

Full preview of Hampshire's double-header in the Royal London One Day Cup

Hampshire will look to climb above Kent in the Royal London One Day Cup standings when the sides clash at the The Ageas Bowl on Tuesday (26th July), before taking on local rivals Sussex at Hove on Wednesday (27th July).

Hampshire Squad:

Tom Alsop’s shining performances in a Hampshire shirt, particularly in this format, have warranted an England Lions call up and the 20-year-old batsman returns from a weekend with the Lions in time for Hants’ clash with Kent.

Sean Ervine will skipper the side in the absence of James Vince – currently playing in England’s Test Series against Pakistan - and Liam Dawson will look to continue his fine batting form in the competition; the England all-rounder has scored three fifties in four innings.

The Opposition:

Sam Billings is capable of scoring with the bat, and a score of 68 for the England Lions against Sri Lanka A last week showed his potential.

James Tredwell has a reputation for being one of the best spinners in the country, particularly in the one-day format. Tredwell has experience at three world cups with England and has taken over 70 international wickets.

Chris Jordan is Sussex’s main threat with the ball, having claimed over 100 List-A wickets in his career. He took 3-55 in Sussex’s latest defeat in the competition, losing by 51 runs to Gloucestershire.

Recent Form:

Hampshire have won two and lost two in the RL One Day Cup this season, most recently defeating Surrey by 6 runs. Tom Alsop hit 116 and Sean Ervine made 50, as Gareth Berg took four wickets.

Kent are yet to win in two matches on the road, having won two of their opening three matches, which were all played at home. Hampshire have a game in hand.

Sussex on the other hand have struggled to get going in the competition, losing four of their opening five matches – the latest a 51-run defeat at Gloucestershire.
