Hampshire name 13-man squad to take on Nottinghamshire at the The Ageas Bowl on Sunday
Hampshire are looking to secure their first win of the 2016 season when they take on Nottinghamshire at the The Ageas Bowl in Specsavers County Championship Division One on Sunday.
Hampshire Squad:
Sean Ervine returns to the squad - now captained by stand-in skipper Will Smith - having missed out on Hampshire’s previous County Championship matches against Middlesex and Lancashire with a hand injury.
Chris Wood has been ruled out for the season, after a knee injury sustained whilst bowling against Middlesex required surgery. Fidel Edwards, Gareth Berg and Ryan Stevenson are still absent through injury.
James Vince is away on international duty, having been selected for England’s Test series against Sri Lanka. Tom Alsop and Brad Wheal come into the 13-man squad. Gareth Andrew could make his home debut, after kicking off his Hampshire career against Lancashire.
The Opposition:
Former Hampshire man Michael Lumb is often a threat with the bat, and comes to the The Ageas Bowl having scored a composed century against Warwickshire in his previous Specsavers County Championship match. There are capable scorers throughout the Notts batting order, and key contributor Samit Patel hit 124 off 82 balls against Warwickshire.
Bowler Luke Fletcher claimed seven Warwickshire wickets, dismissing openers Varun Chopra and Ian Westwood in the first innings, before an effective second innings display in which he took 4-25.
Recent Form:
Bottom-placed Hampshire will be looking to move up the table after losing away at Lancashire, whilst Notts hold a mid-table position in Division One, despite losing to the Bears at Trent Bridge.
Hants opened their injury-hit season with three draws, matching Warwickshire and Middlesex at the The Ageas Bowl, and securing an away draw at Yorkshire.
Notts began their Specsavers County Championship campaign with a 3-wicket victory over Surrey, but defeats at Old Trafford and Trent Bridge have accompanied draws with Middlesex and Yorkshire.
Hampshire won by eight wickets when the sides last met in the Specsavers County Championship, Michael Carberry (84) and Jimmy Adams (70) batting excellently and applying the winning runs.

Jimmy Adams' best score for Hampshire - an unbeaten 262 - came against Notts back in 2006. Hampshire declared on 572-3 after Adams had spent nearly ten hourse in the middle. The match was drawn.
Michael Carberry produced an impressive 132 against Nottinghamshire at the The Ageas Bowl in May 2010, facing 236 balls and hitting 14 boundaries.
What the team say:
Every side is a challenge in this division, and Nottinghamshire are always a dangerous side with lots of depth – they have some good international players. If we play well, we can get the right result.
The bowlers are working really hard, and we have new faces settling in. We’ve had a lot of injuries but looking back we’d say we’ve underperformed with the bat in the last game, so it’s important we get the runs.
