Match Preview: Middlesex v Hampshire - Specsavers County Championship

Squad news ahead of Hampshire's trip to Merchant Taylors' School

Hampshire will look to continue their winning ways when they take on mid-table Middlesex at Merchant Taylors' School, having moved off the bottom of the Specsavers County Championship Division One table with a 69-run victory over Notts.

Hampshire Squad:

Gareth Andrew and Brad Wheal have been added to the squad that secured Hampshire’s first Specsavers County Championship win of the 2016 season, leapfrogging Surrey with their thrilling victory over Nottinghamshire at the The Ageas Bowl.

Will Smith continues as four-day captain, with James Vince representing England in their second Test against Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street, after a winning start as Hampshire skipper.

Reece Topley is the latest injury blow, likely to miss the next three months of action with a partial stress fracture, it was confirmed earlier this week.

The Opposition:

Middlesex batsmen Sam Robson and Nick Gubbins put on an opening partnership of 198 in their last match, helping the side to a 423-run total in their only batting innings against Somerset at Lord’s.

Having taken five Hampshire wickets at the The Ageas Bowl earlier this month, Middlesex bowler Tim Murtagh performed excellently against Somerset, taking 5-53. Stephen Finn is away with England.

Recent Form:

Hampshire come into this game high on confidence after their victory over Notts, whilst Middlesex secured their sixth draw of 2016 against Somerset.

Hants showed real grit and determination against Notts, whilst exhibiting quality with bat and ball - Tom Alsop scoring his first County Championship half-century and Tino Best (4-47) an inspired force in the bowling attack.

When the sides drew at the The Ageas Bowl on 1st May, Michael Carberry and David Malan produced fine centuries in a rain-affected encounter.
