Match Preview: Surrey v Hampshire, Vitality CC
A 13-player Hampshire squad will travel to The Kia Oval to take on Surrey in the Vitality County Championship
The Hampshire Suite at the The Ageas Bowl was filled with fun and smiles as children with disabilities competed in a seven team Table Cricket tournament.
Over 50 Hampshire school pupils played the adapted form of the game centred around table tennis tables.
Cricket was the winner with over 4500 runs scored on the day, as unbeaten Shepherd’s Down and Treloar reached the Lord’s Taverners Regional Final hosted by the Alton school on May 5th.
Hampshire Cricket Board delivered pre-tournament coaching, while several schools hope to compete in a new summer league.
This growing programme, which involves 10 schools in all, has been backed by several organisations, with Hampshire Cricket members to the fore.
Lord’s Taverners funding was matched by the efforts of the Portsmouth and South East Supporters, while county member David Mallett organised a concert at Hedge End’s Berry Theatre.
Woodfalls Band and Wellstead Community Choir donated the proceeds from a memorable evening while Lucketts Travel paid for the venue hire.
It was a great evening with lots of good music and an appreciative audience giving generously for a good cause.
David Mallett, Wellstead Community Choir
It was a pleasure to perform with the Wellstead Community Choir to an appreciative audience. When we saw the work done with disabled young cricketers the night was made even more rewarding.
