Taylor Joined by Dravid in First Media Conference as England Under 19s Captain

The Tri-Series will start on Thursday

Brad Taylor was in illustrious company in his first media conference as the captain of England Under-19s ahead of their Tri-Series against Sri Lanka and India in Colombo.

The Hampshire off-spinner found himself sharing the top table with batting maestro Rahul Dravid, who took up a position as coach of India’s under-19s and also their A-team last year, and will be leading them into next month’s Under-19s World Cup in Bangladesh.

England’s management have already asked Dravid if he will address their squad at some point later in the tournament.

Taylor will lead England for the first time tomorrow in a warm-up game against a Sri Lankan selection at the R Premadasa Stadium, where England will play their first Tri-Series match against Dravid’s Indians on Friday.

The 35,000-capacity venue, which has staged numerous famous international occasions and where West Indies were crowned World T20 champions in 2012, will be familiar territory for Taylor and six other members of the England squad, who played there during an Under-17s tour to Sri Lanka in 2014.

Ryan Davies, the wicketkeeper who recently joined Somerset from Kent, linked up with the England squad yesterday, after delaying his departure because of illness.

Lancashire’s Haseeb Hameed has also returned to the set-up after a personal training trip to India, meaning England are now missing only Surrey’s Sam Curran.

He is due to arrive on Thursday after England agreed to a delayed departure to allow the 17-year-old to catch up on some of the schoolwork he missed as a result of his stunning debut campaign in county cricket last summer.

The Tri-Series will start on Thursday when India face Sri Lanka at the Premadasa.

England Under-19 squad to play tri-series in Sri Lanka: George Bartlett (Somerset), Hugh Bernard (Kent), Jack Burnham (Durham), Mason Crane (Hampshire), Sam Curran (Surrey), Ryan Davies (Kent), Ben Green (Somerset), Haseeb Hameed (Lancashire), Adam Hickey (Durham), Max Holden (Middlesex), Dan Lawrence (Essex), Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire), Tom Moores (Nottinghamshire), Brad Taylor (captain) (Hampshire), Callum Taylor (Essex), Jared Warner (Yorkshire).
