Latest update on the Hampshire players down under

Hampshire batsman Joe Weatherley hit his maiden century in First Grade cricket at the weekend as Woodville beat Glenelg to secure their second win of the campaign.

Playing in the South Australia Cricket Association Premier League, Woodville notched 253 all-out with promising Hants youngster Weatherley the stand-out performer with the bat.

The 18-year old hit 12 fours and 1 six on his way to 120 not out as he faced 189 balls during his 237 minute stay at the crease.

In reply, Glenelg reached 228 as wickets fell in regular intervals throughout their innings. Opener Alex Carey top-scored with 48, but it was skipper Carl Tietjens who stole the show with the ball, finishing with figures of 5-43 as Woodville secured the low-scoring win.

Elsewhere, Hants wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Wheater hit 30 in Perth’s T20 defeat to Claremont-Nedlands.

Perth hit 122 from their 20 overs before Claremont-Nedlands reached the target with three balls to spare – South Wilts’ 2015 overseas player Ryan Duffield finished with figures of 2-24 from his 3.3 overs.

Will Smith ended his match unbeaten on 3 as Gordon drew with Blacktown in the Sydney First Grade match at the Chatswood Oval.
