Wheater Hits Century As Seconds Draw With Glamorgan

Adam Wheater scored 147 runs off 189 balls against Glamorgan Second XI

Adam Wheater (147) constructed a fine century and Gareth Andrew (53) registered a measured half-ton, as Hampshire's Second XI benefited from an injection of first team talent in their abandoned Second Eleven Championship match at the Gnoll, Neath.

Wheater and Andrew have been highly influential players in Hampshire's limited-over competitions this season, but this match provided an opportunity for the pair to show their capabilities in the longer format.

Hants declared on 307-8 and Brad Wheal claimed two Glamorgan wickets before the match was abandoned due to adverse weather conditions.

Joe Weatherley (12) and Ben Duggan (35) opened the batting for Hampshire Second XI, but Weatherley was unable to exhibit his usual promise, caught behind from Carey's bowling.

Duggan patiently built 35 runs off 90 balls to recover the sistuation, pushing just three to the boundary, before becoming the first of four wickets claimed by Joshi, Glamorgan's leading wicket-taker.

Wheater's contribution was vital - taking Hants to 120-4 as Brad Taylor and Jake Goodwin fell to Joshi - and the presence of the first team was undeniably felt beneficial as Andrew joined the wicket-keeper batsman in the middle.

Andrew registered a fine half-ton from 102 balls, showing an ability to bat steadily as opposed to his usual furiosity. Wheater was finally taken by Murphy, three shy of his 150.

Hampshire opted declare on 307-8, with Jacob Lintott and Brad Wheal both remaining unbeaten on 10, setting the home side a 308-run target before adverse conditions decided the contest.

There was enough play left for Wheal to take two wickets in two balls though, bowling Selman (40) before he reached his fifty and then trapping Smith at lbw for a duck -  Andrew helping reduce Glamorgan to 79-3, as Goodwin caught skipper Kettleborough.

Glamorgan climbed to 81-3 before the match was abandoned for rain, having already experienced interruptions due to the weather.
