Will Smith Hits First Century of the Season Down Under

An update on the Hampshire players plying their trade in Australia

Batsman Will Smith hit his first century of the season for Gordon Cricket Club at the weekend, as his side completed a first innings victory over Randwick-Petersham in their Sydney first-grade match at the Petersham Oval.

With the ball, Smith finished with figures of 1-98 from his 29 overs as the home side reached 345-6 from their 96 overs. Daniel Sams top-scored for Randwick-Petersham, hitting 121.

But it was a fantastic knock from the Hampshire batsman that helped Gordon win the match, smashing 16 fours and one six on his way to 131 from 224 balls as the visitors reached the target in the 89th over.

Elsewhere, Adam Wheater continued his promising form with the bat for Perth Cricket Club by hitting a fluent 46 from 58 balls (6 fours) against Claremont-Nedlands. The previous week, Wheater struck back-to-back half centuries for Perth.

Batsman Sean Terry hit a half-century for new club Monash Tigers in their thrashing of Kingston Hawthorn. Terry’s 53 contributed to a first innings total of 226-5 declared before Kingston Hawthorn were dismissed for just 63 in the 21st over.

Up against former team-mate Joe Gatting, batsman Joe Weatherley made his first-grade debut for Woodville at the weekend in the match versus Northern Districts.

Northern Districts were blown away for just 93 in their first innings with former Elite International Cricket Academy player Tom Andrews picking up 4-38.

In reply, Weatherley made four as Woodville ended the day on 207-4, a lead of 114 runs going into the second day next weekend.
