Match Preview: Surrey v Hampshire, Vitality CC
A 13-player Hampshire squad will travel to The Kia Oval to take on Surrey in the Vitality County Championship
A number of Hampshire’s younger players have a fantastic opportunity to play some of Australia’s Ashes stars thanks to a fixture between the Elite International Cricket Academy and the Hampshire Second XI.
On Thursday 18th & Friday 19th June, Newclose Cricket Ground on the Isle of Wight will play host to Australian test stars Ryan Harris, Chris Rogers, Mitch Marsh and more, as the EICA and Hampshire Second XI combine to create two elite sides that will square off in a two-day friendly.
This fixture represents what the Elite International Cricket Academy is all about; some of the best young players in the world playing against some of the best young county pros, a win win scenario for all involved. Add to that the four Ashes squad members and it is set to be an excellent two days of cricket and we would like to thank Newclose Cricket Ground in advance for their availability and hard work in the lead up to the game.
Richard Browning, EICA Manager
Based at The Ageas Bowl and launched in 2013, the EICA plays host to a number of young, talented international cricketers each year who reside in Hampshire to hone their skills and gain experience with the hope of continuing to further international honours.
This year the EICA in conjunction with Cricket Australia will host a contest that will not only feature the academy’s talented youngsters, but veteran international stars too.
Harris, Rogers and Marsh are all in Australia’s 17-man ashes squad for this summer’s series clash and the fixture offers not only match practice for the trio, but a vital chance for the 2015 EICA intake and some of Hampshire’s Second XI to learn from some of the world’s best.
