Jimmy Adams

Batsman

Jimmy is a left-hand opening batsman, excellent fielder and occasional left-arm medium-pace bowler.

He was born in Winchester and played for Hampshire’s junior sides and England Under 19s before signing for the county.

Jimmy was awarded his Hampshire cap in 2006 when he recorded his highest first-class score, 262* at Trent Bridge.

He played in Hampshire’s trophy winning sides of 2009 and 2010; his teammates voting him their Players' Player of the Year in both seasons. In 2010, particularly, Jimmy had a phenomenal season scoring 1,351 first class runs to which he added a record 668 in the Twenty20 and 496 in the 40-over game.

He was rewarded with selection for the England Performance Squad tour of Australia in late 2010 and the England Lions to the Caribbean in early 2011.

At the end of the 2011 season it was announced that Adams would be Hampshire's new captain, taking over from Dominic Cork. He responded to the extra responsibility in the best possible way, finishing the 2012 season as LV= County Championship Division Two's leading run-scorer.

In 2014, Adams reached 10,000 first-class runs for the Club before scoring his fifth double century for Hampshire in Championship matches; a match-winning 231 against Leicestershire at the Utilita Bowl before Hampshire Cricket rewarded Adams with a benefit year in 2015.

During that season, which saw Adams stand down from the Championship captaincy to concentrate on his own batting, the left-hander enjoyed an impressive Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, finishing the competition as Hampshire’s leading runs-scorer with 361 runs at an average of 60.1.

Adams reached 200 first-class matches when he opened the batting at the Utilita Bowl against Lancashire in August 2016, aptly putting on a 191-run partnership for the first wicket with Will Smith.

The left-hander has impressed in 2017 showing his class both on and off the pitch by hitting two centuries in the season, as well as winning Clubman Of The Year.
