Joe is a right-handed batsman and occasional off-break bowler.

The 26-year old joined Hampshire on a two-year contract from their local rivals in December 2013 after spending five seasons at Sussex.

Gatting made an immediate impact during his time at Hove, scoring 152 on his First Class debut in 2009. He then went on to make 145 appearances for the Club after becoming a regular figure in their One-Day side.

Before playing cricket for Sussex, Joe spent three seasons playing football for Brighton & Hove Albion. 

Joe is also part of an extremely talented sporting family with his dad, Steve Gatting making over 300 appearances as a professional footballer for Brighton & Hove Albion whilst his uncle, Mike Gatting represented England 79 times in Test Matches and captained England to an Ashes series victory in Australia in 1986/87. 

Gatting appeared 13 times during his first season with the Club and top-scored with 67 during Hampshire’s LV= County Championship draw with Derbyshire in April, 2014.
