Giles White holds the position Director of Cricket and following a successful professional playing career with the county, is now part of the set-up behind the scenes at Hampshire.

In a professional playing career spanning 11 years at first-class level, White scored more than 6000 runs at an average of more than 30 whilst also claiming 12 first-class wickets as an occasional leg-break bowler.
Adrian Birrell

Adrian Birrell was appointed as First Team Manager in December 2018, joining the Club on a three-year deal.

The former Ireland and England U19 Head Coach enjoyed a first-class playing career spanning more than a decade, having represented both Eastern Province and County Districts in his native South Africa from 1984, before moving into coaching at the conclusion of his playing career in 1997.

After working with the South Africa U19 side and acting as Head Coach of Eastern Province from 1999, the former all-rounder was appointed Ireland Head Coach in 2002. Birrell led the side for a five-year period which saw them gain a place in the top 10 of the ICC World Rankings and also included a successful 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup campaign, in which they reached the Super Eight stage.

He was then named England U19 Head Coach in 2010, before joining South Africa’s coaching set-up under Russell Domingo, filling the role of Assistant Coach from 2013 until 2017, until his appointment at South Afrcian Mzansi Super Leauge side, Paarl Rocks, earlier this year.

Jimmy Adams holds the position of Assistant Coach and after announcing his retirement at the end of the 2018 season, is now part of the set-up behind the scenes at Hampshire.

The former Club captain amassed more than 20,000 runs in a career spanning 16 years and 491 matches before his retirement, and he joins the Coaching Staff with a focus on the Hampshire Second XI.

Jamie Cook joined the staff at the Utilita Bowl in 2018 as Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach, becoming the Club's Rehabilitation Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2019 before being named Lead Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Charlie Freeston

Charlie Freeston

Head of Player Development & Talent Pathway
Charlie Freeston played cricket on the Isle of Wight for Ventnor Cricket Club before joining the Hampshire Cricket as a coach of the youth age groups and performance squads.

He subsequently impressed and worked his way up the coaching ladder at the Utilita Bowl. Having worked with the Hampshire Academy for a number of years, Charlie now holds the role of Head of Player Development.

Born in Bristol, Joe Maiden joined the Club in March 2014 to take up the role of Performance Analyst.

Prior to his move to the Utilita Bowl, Joe graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University (formerly UWIC) studying BSC Sports Coaching Science.

In his spare time, Joe plays club cricket for West of England Premier Cricket League side, Rockhampton.

Tony Middleton holds the position of First Team Batting Coach, following a prolific professional playing career with the county.

Middleton enjoyed an 11 year career at first-class level and scored more 5500 runs at the highest domestic level, having represented Hampshire for the entirety of his playing years.
James Tomlinson

James Tomlinson

Player Development Manager
James Tomlinson holds the position of Player Development Manager, and after a 14-year playing career with Hampshire, joined the coaching set-up in 2018.

The former seamer made his Hampshire debut back in 2002 and went on to claim 419 wickets before announcing his retirement in 2016.

Graeme Welch is Hampshire's newly-appointed Bowling Lead Coach, overseeing the development of all the Hampshire bowlers throughout the age-group system to the senior squad.

The former medium pacer also has experience within England’s coaching setup and has previously held roles at Essex, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and played an important role with Southern Brave's 2021 campaign in The Hundred.
