Academy Open with SEPL Defeat
Jamie Miller is on a development contract at Hampshire
Hampshire Academy lose to Bashley (Rydal) by 63 runs in Southern Electric Premier League curtain-raiser.
Hampshire’s Academy fell to a 63-run defeat against Bashley (Rydal) despite another good all-round performance from development contract, Jamie Miller.
The leg-spinner took 4-35 and made 57 with the bat but couldn’t stop his side from being all-out for just 142 in response to the hosts’ 205.
For Bashley, an Andy Sexton half-century and a five-wicket return from Kevin Nash were the highlights at the BCG.
Sexton, who made several county appearances for Hampshire under Jimmy Cook’s tutelage, started things off well, hitting 58 alongside Neil Thurgood (28) to give his side an 88-run platform.
That was before Tom Barber, a nippy left-armer from Parley Sports, had both openers caught behind by Michael Bates.
Bashley never got back on top of things after that and, as seam gave way to spin, Miller and finger spinner Tim Ravenscroft (3-25) made inroads; seeing off what remained of the hosts’ line-up.
However, in response, the Academy’s top order struggled against the experienced Nash (5-28) and Jake Lilley (2-29); the latter anxious to make a point after being released by the Young Royals.
And the visitors were 46-5 when Miller (57) arrived to give the innings some substance. However, by the time he was last man out the Academy had reached their lowly total and fallen to a comfortable loss.
