Hampshire Trio Make England's Australia Performance Squad
Carbs has previous experience with England
It's as easy as ABC - Adams, Briggs and Carberry, that is!
Hampshire’s home-grown heroes Jimmy Adams and Danny Briggs have been selected for the England Performance Programme to tour Australia this winter. They are joined by colleague, Michael Carberry, who has already represented the senior England side over the past 12 months.
The announcement marks a fantastic end to a wonderful season for the trio, who have performed brilliantly in all three forms of the game for the club, winning the Friends Provident t20 Cup in the process.
Adams – who scored more than 2,500 runs in all competitions – said; “I’m over the moon. Just absolutely chuffed! Hopefully I’ll do well but it’ll be a great winter come-what-may because this is an opportunity I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. I’m just going to go and give it 100 per cent.
“It’ll certainly make it easier to have Hampshire team-mates with me. Danny and Carbs absolutely deserve it too, after the seasons they’ve had. Carbs, particularly, has seen it all before, so his experience will be invaluable to both Danny and I.
“I’m not upset about not making the senior squad because they’ve got a very set unit and ultimately, as an England supporter, it’s good to see the national team looking solid. I hope they do well. I’m just very proud to be a part of things and if more opportunities arise, I’ll grasp them with both hands.”
There was also good news for former Hampshire player, Chris Tremlett who was selected for the Ashes squad charged with defending the urn.
Tremlett’s father, Tim still works at The Rose Bowl as Cricket Secretary. He said of his son’s success; “I’m very proud for the family. I thought he might be going out to Australia in some capacity, but I actually thought he’d be in the performance squad!
“It’s a good time to join the England set-up at the moment – they’re playing some good cricket. But Chris will be going out there to prove what he can do. Hopefully he can put some pressure on the likes of Steve Finn, James Anderson and Tim Bresnan.”

Both squads were announced by the ECB this afternoon [Thursday 23rd September] following the climax to the cricket season – the final NatWest Series One Day International at The Rose Bowl last night.
The England Performance Programme will be based in Brisbane from November 13 and will be the first port-of-call in case of injuries to senior squad players.
They will play a four-day match against a Queensland XI (November 25-28) before relocating to Perth on November 29 to play a Western Australia XI (December 7-10). They will then remain in Perth for the lead up to the third Ashes Test before departing for the UK on December 16.
The Ashes tournament gets under way with the First Test at The Gabba in Brisbane between 25-29 November and ends in Sydney on 3-7 January with the fifth and final Test.
