Hampshire Vs Worcestershire FPT

Hampshire beaten by Worcestershire team effort

Worcestershire produced a real team effort to secure a 108-run win over Hampshire in the FP Trophy at New Road.

Steve Davies top-scored with only 34 as Worcestershire made 246-8, but crucially only Stephen Moore failed to make double figures.

Matt Mason and Ashley Noffke made early inroads to reduce Hampshire to 28-4.

Only Chris Benham (42) offered any real resistance as they were bowled out for 138, Chris Whelan taking the last three wickets to earn a one-day best 4-27.

The victory took Worcestershire back to the top of Group A at Hampshire's expense and ended a run of two-straight defeats in the competition.

But, with two games left against the bottom two Ireland and Leicestershire, Hampshire will still fancy their chances of booking a quarter-final place.

Worcestershire got off to a flying start, with Vikram Solanki and Davies putting on 44 in six overs.

Dimitri Mascarenhas accounted for Solanki, the Worcestershire captain playing on to his own stumps, and Moore, before Billy Taylor (3-37) removed Davies.

And when Liam Dawson produced a smart catch off his own bowling to dismiss Ben Smith, Worcestershire were in trouble at 124-4.

But they dug in and Moeen Ali, Gareth Batty and Ian Fisher all hit 31 and Ashley Noffke 29 as they posted what proved to be a more than competitive score.

Noffke and Mason struck twice each to remove Michael Lumb, John Crawley, Sean Ervine and Michael Carberry with the new ball.

That early damage proved terminal for Hampshire as they never threatened to mount a challenge for victory.
