John Crawley and Nic Pothas both scored centuries as Hampshire made full use of the first two days of their three-day match against Cardiff University at a sunny Rose Bowl.

Crawley scored 105, with 17 fours and a six, as Hampshire rattled up 379-5- in a match not given first-class status-- before declaring on the opening day on Saturday. Three other batsmen made half-centuries, Jimmy Adams (74), fellow-opener Michael Brown (67) and Chris Benham (53 not out).

In reply, Cardiff University struggled to 37-4 at the end of the first day and were dismissed for 120 on Sunday.

James Tomlinson, the left-arm paceman, led the way for Hampshire with figures of 4-24 off 14 overs, while skipper Shane Warne took 3-10. James Bruce picked up two wickets and the other fell to Dimi Mascarenhas.

The Hampshire batsmen then made full use of more time in the middle to finish the second day on 407-6 in their second innings. That gave the county a massive overall lead of 666 runs.

Pothas, who opened the innings, top-scored with 135, a knock that included 16 fours and a six. Sean Ervine hit 68 and left-hander Michael Lumb, the close-season signing from Yorkshire, weighed in with 55.

HAMPSHIRE 379-5 declared (Crawley 105, Adams 74, Brown 67, Benham 53 not out) and 407-6 (Pothas 135, Ervine 68, Lumb 55); CARDIFF UNIVERSITY 120 (Tomlinson 4-24, Warne 3-10).
