Hampshire Sign Wicketkeeper-Batsman Adam Wheater
Mar 1 2013
Hampshire Cricket is delighted to announce the signature of wicketkeeper-batsman, Adam Wheater on a two year deal from Essex.
The 23-year old has a first-class batting average of 39.09 and has taken nearly 100 catches in all formats for a range of clubs including Essex, Zimbabwe’s Matabeleland Tuskers and New Zealand side, Northern Districts.
He said; “Signing with Hampshire has entered me into a new and exciting chapter in my career. As a club they’ve experienced a lot of recent success and I want to help continue that to repay the faith they’ve shown in me.”
Hampshire fans will remember Wheater well from last season after he hit 98 off 111 balls (including 12 fours and four sixes) to take his side to within a whisker of victory over the Ageas Bowl side. He also took four first-innings catches behind the stumps in that fixture.
But, in addition, he recorded scores of 82 against Kent, 71 against Cambridge University and 56 against Gloucestershire.
Manager, Giles White added; “Adam will add competition with the gloves and comes with an impressive first class batting average. We have experienced, first-hand, that he is a young player with great ability and we hope that he is able to fulfil his potential and build on what has been a bright start to his career.
“Contrary to reports, no assurances or promises have been made to Adam but we are delighted that he has chosen to pursue his career at Hampshire.”
