Lumb Shines in Seconds' Wash-Out
Hampshire and MCC Universities draw in the Second XI Championship
Hampshire Second XI v MCC Universities
Second XI Championship
Start: 13th July 2010
The Rose Bowl
Summary
Match Drawn
Hampshire: 288 & 76-1
MCC Universities: 280-3d
No play was possible on day three of this Second Eleven Championship match between Hampshire and MCC Universities, meaning the draw that always looked likely turned out to be the case.
Disappointing though that was for a Hampshire side still searching for their first win, it did at least provide the possibility for an outing for Michael Lumb, and the England t20 star took his chance well, scoring 67 in his first and only real innings.
Combined with reasonable, if not wholly inspiring knocks from the rest of his team-mates, the hosts reached 288 before their guests notched up 280-3 in reply, declaring to give the game a chance of a result. By the end of day two Hampshire were 76-1 – a lead of 84 with a day to play.
Unfortunately, it was not to be and the home side will take their seven points as they travel to Kent looking to emulate the First XI’s impressive win against the same club earlier this month.
