Rain Halts Fluent Hants Pair

Apr 5 2011

Hampshire v Middlesex
Two Day Friendly
Start: Tuesday 4 April
The Rose Bowl

Summary - Match Drawn
Middlesex: 304-8d
Hampshire: 98-3 (24 ovs)

A heavily rain-affected game at The Rose Bowl meant only 24 overs were able to be played on the final day of this two-day friendly between Hampshire and Middlesex.

It means Hampshire have warmed up for their season curtain-raiser against Durham at The Rose Bowl on Friday with two draws but at least there has been valuable time on English soil for a few newcomers to the squad as well as those returning from injury.

In the time that was available on the second day, one such newcomer, Johann Myburgh, showed more of the class that we saw from him in the Caribbean T20, hitting a fluent 45 not out from 55 balls. Together with Sean Ervine (20 not out from 26 balls) the pair saw Hampshire through to 98-3 by the time the umpires called the match off due to unplayable conditions.

Earlier, Liam Dawson (0), Benny Howell (2) and James Vince (13) had all fallen attempting to get their side off the mark quickly in pursuit of a target of 304.

The team will take a couple of days to prepare for that all-important LV= County Championship match against Durham on Friday. Check the website over the next few days for a full preview to the big game.
