Summary
Hampshire beat Sussex by 5 runs
Sussex: 292
Hampshire: 296-5
Not for the first time this season, Hampshire left it to the final over to chase down a total, eventually chalking up 296 runs to beat Sussex by 5 wickets.
Praise must go largely to Liam Dawson who powered his way to 120 with the bat, although special mention should also go to Thomas Morton (91*), David Balcombe (5-50) and Jack Sheppard (3-63) for playing their parts in the victory.
The match was also notable for the appearance of pace-bowler Simon Jones (10-0-54-1) who showed he’s well on his way back to full fitness by bowling the full 10 overs.
Hampshire had been set a tough target, thanks mainly to an impressive 135-run innings from Sussex wicketkeeper-batsman, Ben Brown. However, a massive fifth-wicket partnership of 174 between Dawson and Morton saw the visitors to within 20 runs of the line. Michael Bates joined Morton at the crease to see Hampshire to the win.
