LVCC Hampshire v Warwickshire Day 1
Apr 22 2009
Hampshire made an impressive start to their LVCC game against Warwickshire finishing on 116 for 2 at lunch.
Having won the toss and electing to bat on what looked like a good wicket for batting, Hampshire needed a solid platform on which to build their innings. Unfortunately Jimmy Adams fell early to a Boyd Rankin delivery that moved away from the left hander to be caught by Rikki Clarke at second slip.
This slight blip didn’t stop Michael Carberry playing in his usual aggressive manner, cutting and pulling the Warwickshire bowlers ferociously as soon as they strayed from their line and length.Carberry looked in exquisite touch throughout the session pouncing on any bad balls the Bears dished up. However, the over before lunch saw the Carberry demise as he was caught behind off the bowling of Miller for 77 which included 14 x 4s and 1 x 6.

John Crawley and Marcus North fell shortly after lunch for 30 and 15 repectively, both men dissapointed that they were not able to push on from their starts. Dawson (22) provided some solid resistance before he was caught by Troughton trying to pull a short pitched delivery off the bowling of Rikki Clarke.
Nic Pothas was the mainstay of the Hampshire innings in the final two sessions putting any bad balls away, as well as pushing hard between the wickets. Pothas brought up a well structured half century after the tea interval with a flurry of boundaries.

Dominic Cork was the next to go when he was caught at cover off Rikki Clarke with the second new ball for 5.
Chris Tremlett and Nic Pothas steered Hampshire to the close of play, Pothas finishing the day on 83 and Tremlett on 15.
Hampshire finished the day on 310 for 7.
