The Rose Bowl Nursery Ground
Summary: Match Drawn
Totton & Eling: 273-7
Hampshire Academy: 234-7
Dorset raised youngsters Lewis McManus (left) and Ryan Scott (right) defied Totton & Eling and gained the Hampshire Academy a hard earned draw in the final ECB Southern Electric Premier League Time Pennant match of the season at the Rose Bowl.
With the Young Royals in trouble at 86-5 chasing a formidable 273-7, Scott struck a best-yet 61 before handing responsibility to wicketkeeper McManus, who unbeaten 61 forced the draw.
The Academy held out comfortably at 234-7 having bowled indifferently in the morning session.
Hampshire’s Benny Howell (67) and Phil Cooper (64) punished some loose bowling and gave Totton a 129-run start, which Simon Steel (58) subsequently improved.
Chris Stone’s creditability as an emerging off-spinner rose with a Premier League best 5-62 return after lunch.
The Academy’s reply never got going and they were facing defeat at 86-5 and later 110-6.
But Scott and McManus dug in to earn their spurs and the Young Royals a share of the spoils.
