Middlesex v Hampshire Twenty20 Cup 25th June

Hampshire edged out by Middlesex in a rain effected Twenty20 Cup match at Southgate

 HAMPSHIRE EDGED OUT BY MIDDLESEX

Hampshire were left still chasing a first win in their Twenty20 Cup campaign after Middlesex edged to a five-run success in a low-scoring match at Southgate on Monday.

Middlesex, who were put in to bat, totalled 73-7 off 12 overs in a rain-hit fixture and Hampshire, who were never able to accelerate in damp conditions, were restricted to 68-8 in reply.

Hampshire paceman Chris Tremlett snapped up the first two wickets when the match finally got underway 70 minutes behind schedule and, having conceded only four runs off the last over of the innings, finished with figures of 3-12 off his three overs.

Spinner Adam Voges, Hampshire's new Australian signing, took 2-4 in his only over since joining the county recently. Middlesex skipper Ed Smith made 21.

Opener Michael Lumb top-scored for Hampshire with 22, but Sean Ervine (16) was the only other player to reach double figures.

Middlesex seamer Chad Keegan took 3-14, despite James Bruce hitting him for six off the last ball of the match, and left-arm spinner Murali Kartik finished with 3-16, including the crucial wickets of Lumb and Ervine.

MIDDLESEX 73-7 (12 overs): Smith 21, Tremlett 3-12, Voges 2-4. HAMPSHIRE 68-8 (12 overs): Lumb 22, Ervine 16, Keegan 3-14, Kartik 3-16.

MIDDLESEX won by five runs.

MIDDLESEX won by five runs.
