HAMPSHIRE HAWKS (133-8) BEAT MIDDLESEX CRUSADERS (127-7) BY SIX RUNS

KRIS TEMPLE REPORTS FROM RICHMOND

Hampshire Hawks returned to winning ways in the Twenty20 Cup, beating South Group leaders Middlesex Crusaders by a narrow six-run margin.

Batting first on a slow pitch, Hampshire were indebted to Michael Carberry (37) and Ian Harvey (31), in reaching their total of 133 for 8 from 20 overs. Tim Murtagh was the pick of the Middlesex bowlers, taking 3 for 15.

In reply, Nantie Hayward took the first three wickets in a ferocious down-wind burst. With Dimi Mascarenhas also turning in an outstanding spell of 3 for 12 from his 4 overs, Hampshire were able to keep the Crusaders at arm's length, despite some late hitting from former Hampshire star Shaun Udal (40no).
