Hampshire Royals v Glamorgan Dragons
Friends Provident t20
Thursday 1st July (19:10 start)
The Rose Bowl

Summary
Hampshire beat Glamorgan by 54 runs
Hampshire Royals: 199-5
Glamorgan Dragons: 145-9

A magnificent Jimmy Adams century inspired Hampshire to a 54 run win against Glamorgan in the Friends Provident t20 at The Rose Bowl.

Adams, who hit 16 fours, was well supported by James Vince (39), and Sean Ervine (20) as Hampshire posted a daunting 199-5.

In reply, Glamorgan could only muster 145-9. Mark Cosgrove looked good early on but fell for 33 and only Mark Wallace, who scored 42, offered runs as the visitors ran out of steam.

Hampshire again produced a dynamic fielding display with Danny Briggs the pick of the Bowlers, claiming 3-27.

Hampshire won the toss and chose to bat, looking to put an out-of-form Glamorgan on the back foot from the start.

The visitors looked to unnerve the opening pair of Adams and Michael Lumb by mixing the bowling up and after six overs had used five different bowlers. This was wasn’t a problem for Adams who adapted to the different variations playing a series of fours.

Vince also soon found his rhythm, finding the boundary with ease. At the half way stage the home side were on a comfortable 75-1.

A sweetly timed four then brought up Adams' fifty as well as the fifty partnership; Adams taking just 34 balls to reach the milestone with eight fours.

Vince was cruising to his half century in spectacular style but after hitting a huge six deep over square leg he was bowled the next over by Robert Croft for 39 ending a partnership worth 90, the score on 123-2.

Adams and Ervine (20) then added 40 before the penultimate over brought a drop and overthrows from captain, Dalrymple, as well as six penalty runs for Glamorgan’s slow over rate.

A brilliant century for the Winchester-born, Adams, was then completed with a quick single from 60 balls, Adams also hitting the first t20 century without a six. Hampshire’s innings finished on 199-5.

Adams made 100 not out off 61 balls (including sixteen 4s).

Glamorgan, who beat Hampshire earlier in the season at The Swalec Stadium, started their chase in positive fashion and after five overs were ahead of Hampshire by 10 runs on 44-1. The good news for the home side was they had lost the influential Jim Allenby who scored fifty in the reverse fixture; Simon Jones claiming the wicket as the Australian could only loft one to Chris Wood.

A stunning catch then removed a firing Cosgrove who had just hit two huge sixes in the previous over. Dominic Cork running back from mid-off took the ball over his shoulder, diving towards the boundary.

Another piece of excellent fielding saw Tom Maynard run out with a direct hit from Vince leaving Glamorgan 53-3. Jamie Dalrymple and Ben Wright then skied balls to keeper, Nic Pothas and Lumb before Gareth Rees was bowled by Cork and David Brown was caught in the deep by Vince for Wood’s second wicket; still 101 runs behind.

Briggs then claimed two wickets in his last two balls, bowling Croft and then trapping Chris Ashling lbw, ending with 3-27. He will start on a hatrick ball in the next game after using his four overs up.

Glamorgan’s innings came to an end on 145-9. Hampshire still look to claim consecutive wins for the first time this season, when they take on Kent at Canterbury on Friday night.
