Oct 12 2010
Somerset Second XI v Hampshire Second XI
Second XI Championship
Start: 26th May 2010
Taunton Vale
Summary
Somerset beat Hampshire by 3 wickets
Hampshire: 373 & 293-5d
Somerset: 346 & 324-7
Hampshire declared with a second innings lead of 320 and were made to regret the decision as Somerset knocked off the target in under 60 overs to win this Second XI Championship match at Taunton Vale.
This, despite a dominant first innings from the visitors, who saw star turns with the bat from Liam Dawson (126) and Chris Wood (69) while Danny Briggs took a five-fer and held another catch to see off another home batsman. At the half-way stage, Hampshire had made 373 and had a lead of 27 runs.
Having then reached 293-5 in their second innings, Hampshire put their hosts in and started well, Simon Jones removing Somerset opener, Nick Compton with just four runs on the board. However, Robin Lett (113) put in a huge shift to battle back for the home side and, with time running out on the third day, the hosts reached their target.
The loss meant Hampshire took just 8 points to Somerset’s 24 and remained winless so far this season. They look to bounce back against Sussex next week.
