Hampshire Seconds Suffer at Hands of Sussex
Sussex beat Hampshire by 15 runs in the Second Eleven Trophy
Sussex Second XI v Hampshire Second XI
Second Eleven Trophy
31st May 2010
Stirlands CC, Birdham
Summary
Sussex beat Hampshire by 15 runs
Sussex: 200-9
Hampshire: 185
A strong Sussex attack led by England spinner, Monty Panesar (8-0-26-1) saw off the whole Hampshire batting order inside 38 overs and with just 185 runs on the board as the hosts rode to victory at Stirlands CC.
Chasing a reachable total of 200 inside a reduced 40 overs, none of the visiting batsmen could get themselves sufficiently settled at the crease, with only David Balcombe (47) and Chris Benham (36) making any real impression.
Hampshire had looked to be in good position when a three-wicket haul for Liam Dawson (3-43) had pegged back the hosts, who also struggled to settle in front of the stumps.
However, Panesar, along with, most notably, Kenyan quick, Ragheb Aga (6-0-29-3) did the business against a Hampshire side looking to knock off the runs quickly.
The two teams meet again in two weeks' time at Horsham. Jon Ayling’s men will be hoping for revenge!
