Sahibdaza Mohammad Shahid Khan AFRIDI
“Boom Boom” (31) is a leg-break bowler and right handed batsman who signed as Hampshire’s overseas player specifically for the 2012 Twenty20 competition.
Regarded as one of the most explosive players in world cricket, Afridi made his One-Day International debut for Pakistan aged just 16 and scored the fastest recorded One-Day hundred in his maiden innings, recording 102 runs off only 37 balls.
He has played more than 300 ODIs for his country and nearly 30 Tests, but excels in Twenty20 cricket, where his exciting and unorthodox batting makes him a crowd favourite the world over. He was named Player of the Tournament in the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2007 and starred as Pakistan won the 2009 competition in England.
Afridi has already enjoyed a highly successful stay with Hampshire in 2011, taking 17 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 11.17 to help his side through the group stages unbeaten at home and to t20 Finals Day at Edgbaston.
Highlights from the campaign include taking his county-best bowling figures of 5-20 on his home debut against Gloucestershire and an impressive knock of 80 in the semi-final against Somerset.
In October, Afridi announced he would be returning to the county for 2012, citing a desire to complete some "unfinished business" with the Royals.
