Clydesdale Bank 40

Wood-Colours-Ball-Surrey-Whitgift-Zee-3-208The Competition:

The Clydesdale Bank 40 is the latest incarnation of List A county cricket, allowing both teams one innings of a maximum of 40 overs each.

In 2012 the CB40 includes 21 teams (the 18 first-class counties plus Scotland, the Netherlands and Unicorns) competing across three groups.

Teams will play every other side in their group home and away. The winners of each group and the runner-up with the highest points total will qualify for the semi-finals.

Hampshire’s Record:

In its various incarnations as a 40-over, 50-over and 55-over competition, Hampshire have won this competition a total of eight times.

Their most recent triumph was in 2009 (known, then, as the Friends Provident trophy) when they beat the Sussex Sharks by six wickets at Lord’s.

They also won the competition in 2005 (as the Cheltenham and Gloucester Cup) and were runners up in the same competition in 2007.

2012 Opposition:

In 2012, Hampshire have been drawn in Group B along with defending champions the Surrey Lions and Runners-Up Somerset. They also have the Durham Dynamos, Nottinghamshire Outlaws, Welsh Dragons (Glamorgan) and Scotland to contend with.
