Competitions
If you or your school are interested in taking part in some fun, cricket-related games, the Hampshire Cricket Board can help.
We organise competitions every year for simplified versions of the game designed to introduce children to the sport.
Below are some examples of games you can play...
ASDA Kwik Cricket:
ASDA Kwik Cricket is a simple game for boys and girls, from five years of age upwards.
It is currently played in 8,000 primary schools and over 4,500 of the 6,000 ECB affiliated clubs. It’s designed to provide children with an introduction to cricket and can be played, either indoors or outdoors.
Hampshire Cricket Board run festivals across the county for children in year 5 and year 6 as well as a specific competition for girls.
Inter Cricket:
Inter Cricket was designed for boys and girls who, for reasons of facility or ability, can't play hard ball cricket. It bridges the gap between Kwik Cricket and the traditional hardball game, increasing levels of participation in the game, particularly amongst 12-14 year olds.
Backed by NatWest this, major, ECB grassroots initiative is ideal for use in secondary schools, and clubs. Click here to access one of the Inter Cricket Teacher Task Cards available to download from the ECB website.
Inter Cricket can be played in the playground or on grass, indoors or outdoors; it therefore underlines the ECB's commitment to promoting the game to, amongst others, inner city areas and ethnic minorities.
There is a new multi-media resource called Get Inter Cricket; designed for use in secondary schools and cricket clubs to assist teachers and coaches in the planning and delivery of cricket, for the 11-14 age group. Full details can be found on the website, as well as PDF versions of the Get Inter Cricket Manuals, to download.
State Schools T20:
Using the popular Twnety20 format, the Hampshire Cricket Board, Hampshire Schools Cricket Association, and Hampshire School Sports Partnerships provide two competitions:
- Years 7/8 boys
- Years 9/10 boys
In the Year 7/8 age group, schools are allowed to enter an entire Year 8 team if they wish but have the flexibility to enter some Year 7 players, to make up their team of eleven. This remains at the discretion of each school.
School’s enter these competitions via a straightforward Entry Form and teams will then be drawn against other local schools.
All four finalists receive new cricket equipment for their schools and the winning school will also receive 20 free tickets to watch a match at The Ageas Bowl.
If you would like your school to find out what competitions are on offer, or enter a particular competition, please email Michael Pollard or call him on 07920 452527.
