Adrian Dimitri ('Dimi') MASCARENHAS
‘Dimi’ is a right-hand batsman and right medium-fast bowler.
He was born in London but raised in Australia and came to England to play in the Southern League before joining Hampshire in 1996 taking 6-88 against Glamorgan at Southampton on debut. He won his Hampshire cap in 1998 and is the only current player who played for the county in the last century.
He took a benefit year in 2007 and was appointed Hampshire captain 2008. In that same year he was the first English player to appear in the Indian T20 Premier League (for Chennai Super Kings) but, playing in the competition in 2010, he suffered a serious Achilles injury and bowled just three overs for Hampshire in 2010.
In 2011 he made a fantastic comeback, playing - against the odds - in all forms of the game and making vital contributions with the ball, especially against Durham where his six wickets ensured the team won their first Championship match of the summer and in the Friends Life t20 competition where he repeatedly took early wickets to help The Royals on the road to a second successive Finals Day.
In December, Dimi confirmed he would be extending his contract at the club by a further two years, keeping him at The Ageas Bowl until the end of the 2013 season. He also resumes the captaincy of the Twenty20 team.
He has scored more than 6,000 First Class runs for Hampshire and taken over 400 wickets in the same format.
He has also played 20 Limited Overs Internationals for England with a highest score of 52 v India at Bristol 2007, and best bowling of 3-23 v India at Lord’s 2007. He also hit five successive sixes off Yuvraj Singh v India at the Oval in 2007.
