2018 Hampshire Cricket Fixtures Announced

The England and Wales Cricket Board have today announced the full 2018 county cricket fixtures

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have today announced the full 2018 county cricket fixtures with Hampshire hosting Worcestershire at the The Ageas Bowl in the opening round of Specsavers County Championship fixtures, beginning on Friday 13th April.

James Vince’s side will then travel away to the Kia Oval to take on Surrey, starting on Friday 20th April, before returning home face reigning four-day champions Essex the following week.

The ECB have also announced the second full round of day/night matches in the County Championship next June – following on from last year’s inaugural day/night four-day games – with the The Ageas Bowl one again selected as a host venue, this time for Hampshire’s four-day match against Yorkshire, beginning on Wednesday 20th June.

The ‘business end’ of the 2018 campaign will see Hants travel to Yorkshire for the penultimate Championship match before a home tie against Lancashire in the last game of the season, starting on Monday 24th September.

Obviously, there’s a big chunk of County Championship cricket early on in April, May and then September, so it’s important we get a good start, get in a strong position early and then build on that as a foundation to go on and push at the right end of the table this year. They’re all tough games so it’s important too that we focus on what we do and if we’re able to put in the performances that we know we’re capable of, then we’ll be very competitive this year.

Hampshire’s quest to reach an eighth T20 Blast Finals Day begins on Friday 6th July with a home clash against Glamorgan, whilst the Hampshire faithful will not have to wait too long to witness the 2018 ‘El Clasicoast’, with Thursday 12th July the date set for local rivals Sussex Sharks’ visit to the The Ageas Bowl.

Kent Spitfires will be the hosts in the club’s first away contest in the competition on Friday 13th July, with four more fixtures then following in July. T20 Finals Day will be held at Edgbaston once again, but at a slightly later date of Saturday September 15, to avoid a clash with England’s Test series against India.

In terms of T20, we've got good pedigree in the T20 competition, so hopefully we can get off to a good start again in 2018 and kick on from there. Our opening fixture against Glamorgan should be a great match-up as they're a side full of explosive batsman - hopefully the weather is kind because it's in a block, and we can hit the ground running to begin the competition.

Giles White, Director of Cricket

Starting slightly later than last season, Hampshire’s Royal London One-Day Cup campaign will commence away from home against Sussex Sharks on Saturday 19th May.

Hampshire will then face Surrey in their opening home fixture of the competition on Monday 21st May, followed by Essex Eagles and Kent Spitfires, with all three matches featuring at the The Ageas Bowl in the same week.

This year’s 50-over competition is divided into two divisions geographically as in previous years, with Hampshire also taking on Somerset, Glamorgan and Gloucestershire at home in 2018.

The 50-over competition is an area we’ve discussed and we feel we have a squad that should compete in that competition. We’ve fallen just short of qualifying (for the knockout stage) the last couple of years, and we qualified the year before, so we’ll certainly be fighting to get out of the groups and then you’re not far away from Lord’s – it would be great to visit Lord’s this year.
