2020 Hampshire Academy Intake Confirmed

Five new faces join the Hampshire Academy for the 2020 season

Hampshire Cricket are pleased to announce the club’s new Academy intake for the 2020 season.

Five new faces join the set up for the new season with Dom Kelly, Charlie Mumford and Huw Wheeler the youngest of those to join the programme, alongside U17 all-rounder Harry Broderick and U18 allrounder Toby Albert.

Fellow U18s Fletcha Middleton, George Metzger, Tom South, Sonny Reynolds and James Trodd will return again for 2020, as well as U17 trio Josh Lawrenson, Tom Prest and Harry Petrie. Although not part of the squad initially last season, Kamran Khanna impressed after debuting for the side and he too is included in this year’s intake.

The Hampshire Academy finished fifth in last year's Southern Electric Premier League, claiming seven victories across both timed and limited overs games from their 16 contests against the best senior players at club level in the county.

Tom Prest's 456 runs saw him finish as the side's highest run getter, closely followed by George Metzger (334 runs) and Fletcha Middleton (330 runs).

Prest also proved to be prolific with the ball as he finished with 20 wickets at an average of just 23.35. Ajeet Dale also impressed with the ball, claiming 19 scalps at 21 apiece in 11 contests.

It’s fantastic to welcome five new promising young players to the Hampshire Academy. They help to form our new intake for 2020 alongside the talented cricketers who return having shown promise as part of the squad this summer. We’re excited to see their development continue throughout this winter and into next season.

The player pathway system, including the Hampshire Academy, has a strong history of producing talented youngsters that go on to succeed in the professional game, highlighted no more so than nine products of the youth system representing Hampshire throughout this summer’s campaign.

Felix Organ, who graduated from Hampshire Academy last year, is the latest player to make an impact after graduating to be a part of the first-team squad, with the 20-year-old recording his maiden first-class century against Kent in only his third County Championship game early this year before going on to claim record figures of 5-25 against Surrey in September to round off a promising first season.

Hampshire Academy Full Squad: Dom Kelly, Charlie Mumford, Huw Wheeler, Josh Lawrenson, Tom Prest, Harry Petrie, Harry Broderick, Kamran Khanna, Fletcha Middleton, George Metzger, Tom South, Sonny Reynolds, James Trodd, Toby Albert.
