Aneurin Donald Puts Pen-To-Paper On New Contract Extension

The Hampshire batsman has signed a new extended deal, committing his future to the club

Hampshire Cricket are delighted to announce that Aneurin Donald has signed a new contract extension.

The 23-year-old has put pen-to-paper on an extended deal, committing his future to the club.

A destructive and stylish batsman, Donald joined Hampshire towards the end of the 2018 season, heading to the south coast from Glamorgan after beginning his career with the Welsh side.

During first full season at Hampshire, the right-hander totalled 554 runs at an average of 40 in the County Championship – including an incredible 173 from just 133 balls against Warwickshire in July – to help James Vince’s side secure the club’s highest first-class finish since 2008.

Donald also made valuable contributions in both white-ball competitions, proving to be an important part of the List A squad which reached a second consecutive 50-over final at Lord’s in May, whilst he settled at the top of the order in the Vitality Blast, registering a strike-rate of 138.10 during last summer’s campaign.

Aneurin is an exciting player and he’s impressed since joining us at the end of 2018. He adds a lot to the side in all formats and he did particularly well in the County Championship last year, which was really encouraging.

He’s got a high ceiling, is a really team-orientated player and great around the group so we’re delighted that he’s signed an extension. We see him as a player that will hopefully be with us for quite some time.

Giles White, Director Of Cricket

I am delighted to be able to commit to a further two years at Hampshire, a club and dressing room that has welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at home right from the start.

The ability and talent throughout the squad is pretty evident to see and we fully expect to be challenging for titles across all formats for the foreseeable future, and I am looking forward to contributing to that in every way I possibly can.

Aneurin Donald

After suffering a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in November, Donald underwent successful knee surgery in December, and although it is expected he will miss the 2020 season, he will continue to work hard on his rehabilitation ahead of making a full return to action later this year.

The best way to catch the Hampshire squad in action all season long is with a 2020 Hampshire Cricket Membership.
