Berg: "I'm Loving Every Minute At Hampshire"

Gareth Berg's contract has been extended until the end of the 2017 season

Gareth Berg is "over the moon" with Hampshire's decision to extend his contract until the end of the 2017 season.

Hampshire have confirmed that Berg will spend another term at the club, days after the all-rounder received his county cap ahead of Lancashire's visit to the The Ageas Bowl.

We're delighted to agree terms with Gareth, who has been an integral part of the team ever since joining the club. He's made a superb impact in the dressing room, and he makes a real difference on the field, capable of contributing with bat and ball - he can balance teams out. We want Gareth to be with us in every success moving forward.

Giles White, Director of Cricket

Berg, 35, joined Hampshire ahead of their 2015 campaign and enjoyed a hugely impressive first season with both the ball and the bat, contributing in all formats. His 42 wickets at an average of 28 and 672 runs in the lower order proved vital as Hampshire avoided relegation from Division One.

"I’m loving every minute at this county," Berg said. "I feel like this is the place I should have been a long time ago, and it’s where I want to end my career.

"I’ve been in a good head space with the team, and my bowling has been pretty rock solid. I’m just over the moon that the club have rewarded me with an extension to my services.

"I have a lot of wise heads around me, just telling me to go out there and do what I do best -  hitting a length, taking wickets and adding runs with the bat too.

"An extension to the contract is great but the main thing for me and the team is to stay in this division."
