Daren Powell was born in Jamaica in 1978. He was a right-arm, fast-medium bowler who played in all three formats for the West Indies, and in addition to Jamaica and Gauteng, in England he played for Derbyshire and Lancashire. In 2007, after playing in ODIs in England, he joined Hampshire, where he played in four first-class, and six limited-overs matches, including the FP Trophy Final v Durham – Hampshire’s first Lord’s Final defeat.

Fidel Edwards was a fast bowler from Barbados who made his debut for Hampshire in 2015, having played in all three formats for the West Indies (55 Test Matches). In 2015, his 45 Championship wickets at 20.88 played a major part in ensuring that Hampshire (just) escaped relegation, while in the following season when they were reprieved only by the Durham penalty, he had suffered an injury in a pre-match warm-up and took just three wickets, missing all but the first two games. He returned in 2017 and took 33 wickets, then in 2018 was Hampshire’s leading Championship wicket-taker with 54 at 26.72, in 2019 adding 50 at 25.32. In the T20, Edwards went on loan to Warwickshire for whom he took nine wickets at 22.88. He was due to return to Hampshire in 2020 until the pandemic struck and his county career concluded just 15 wickets short of 200. He was awarded his Hampshire cap in 2018 and had a testimonial game in the county in 2022.

Hampshire’s West Indian fast bowler Fidel Edwards was injured in a warm-up during the second Championship match of the 2016 season, and to replace him they signed another fast bowler from Barbados, Tino Best, who had played in Tests and internationals for the West Indies, and also played for Yorkshire. He made his Championship debut for the county on 1 May, and played in six first-class matches. In his second match, he took 5-90 in an innings defeat at Old Trafford, but overall took just 14 wickets at a fraction under 40 each. In limited-overs matches he took just one wicket, with four more wickets in nine T20 matches. In early July, he had figures of 0-104 at Durham and did not play another Championship game, ending that season playing for Lashings.
