Born On This Day: 14th October

A new series from Hampshire Cricket historian Dave Allen marks the birthdays of notable and fondly remembered Hampshire cricketers - next up is Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell, was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1988.

He is a dynamic batsman and off-spin bowler who has played for Australia in all three forms of the game but prior to that, in 2012, he came to play in the Southern League for South Wilts, ‘guested’ for Hampshire 2nd XI and was selected to play in that year’s T20 competition, although he was unavailable for the Finals Day.

He returned to play in the T20 overseas Champions League for Hampshire in the in the winter of 2012/13, played for Surrey in 2013, before in 2014 he returned to Hampshire for two limited-overs matches and one Championship match at Worcester, where his 85 in two hours helped Hampshire to save a vital game, after they had followed-on.

At the season’s end Hampshire finished top of Division Two, with Worcestershire runners-up. For Hampshire, he scored two T20 half-centuries with a best of 66* v Kent.
