Calvin Dickinson & Chris Sole Awarded New Contracts

Both players have signed new deals with the club

Hampshire Cricket are delighted to announce that Calvin Dickinson and Chris Sole have signed new deals with the Club.

Both players have committed to contract agreements that will see them remain at the The Ageas Bowl until at least the end of the 2018 season.

Dickinson began his tenure with the club as part of the Hampshire Academy and Second XI, and following impressive performances with the bat and behind the stumps in 2016, he was rewarded with a scholarship contact last year.

The wicketkeeper-batsman blossomed in 2017, offering valuable contributions to the Hampshire Second XI in the early part of the season, whilst also impressing when striking a sublime 99 against South Africa A in a side led by four-day captain, George Bailey.

An injury to regular first-team keeper Lewis McManus later on in the campaign presented further opportunities for the 21-year-old, with a first-team debut awarded in the T20 Blast competition, where he was later promoted to open at the top of the order.

A maiden half-century against Kent Spitfires in just his second T20 innings demonstrated his natural shot-making ability, something he continued to show all the way to the club’s final fixture in the competition at Finals Day in September which has led to a full professional contract.

Similarly to Dickinson, 23-year-old Sole proved to be an important contributor to Hampshire’s Second XI throughout 2017, offering good pace with the ball in 16 Championship, Trophy and T20 fixtures, despite a hand injury preventing him featuring for the season’s entirety.

The paceman also possesses International experience for his native Scotland, having featured in eight ODIs, one T20I, and a combined 15 first-class, List A and T20 fixtures for the side since making his debut in 2016.

What we’ve seen in Calvin is a lot of talent and he’s an exciting young cricketer. There’s been glimpses of it already and those that were there at Canterbury for his maiden half-century, from not very many balls, would have seen that he’s a player that can score quickly with the bat. He’s been working hard on his game here this winter and hopefully he can blossom and push for a place this summer.

Chris is another exciting cricketer. He’s come through the Scotland set-up and played for the Second XI throughout the season – he was unfortunate to fracture his hand in the pre-season so we didn’t see much of him early on but as the season progressed we saw a great prospect and a bowler with real pace. He impressed on occasions and pushed for a white-ball position in the First XI too so we fully expect him to be banging on the door next season.
