First Team Injury Update

The latest on Hampshire's first team players recovering from injury

Chris Wood, All-Rounder

Chris Wood sustained a knee injury during Hampshire’s County Championship match at Yorkshire, and the knee was operated on soon after.

Having progressed well since the surgery and after a recent review with a specialist, the seamer is ready for a full rehab training programme and is three months from running.

Reece Topley, Bowler

Reece Topley is currently undergoing a successful rehabilitation process for a stress fracture to his back suffered at the start of the season.

Running has recently been incorporated into the paceman's programme, and the club is working closely with the ECB regarding his progression. He’ll be looking to resume bowling training over the winter with a view to returning to full bowling next year.

We're really pleased with how Chris is doing, having undergone successful surgery. He's been doing lots of work in the pool and in the gym building his muscle strength. The fitter he is, the stronger he is, the more athletic he is, the less pressure the knee will be under.

Reece has been working closely with our strength and conditioning coach, Nick Karamouzis, who has been looking to retrain his movement patterns and build strength in the gym, particularly around the abdominal area. A lot of it is to do with his running technique, and improving efficiency and movement, which will also be helped by the pilates we're integrating into his training programme.

Ryan Stevenson, Bowler

Ryan Stevenson sustained a stress injury to his back - a reoccurrence of an old injury that has prevented him from bowling in the second half of the season – and a rest period has helped him on the road to recovery.

Ryan will be returning to training soon with the aim of batting later this summer.

Sean Ervine, All-Rounder

Sean Ervine strained his calf during Hampshire’s warm-up for their final T20 match of the season and, after progressive rehab on the injury, the all-rounder should be available for selection in the next 7-10 days.

Fidel Edwards, Bowler

Fidel Ewards has made good progress since sustaining a fracture to his right ankle in a warm-up at the start of the season, and the bowler is keen to play a role for Hampshire should the opportunity arise this season.
